What is Ergonomics?

  • Proper Workstation Setup: Ensuring adjustable workstations to accommodate individuals of various heights and body types. An ideal setup should include an ergonomic chair with lumbar support, a desk at elbow height, and a monitor with adjustable positioning to minimize strain on the neck and eyes.
  • Ergonomic Furniture and Equipment: Investing in ergonomic furniture and tools such as adjustable desks, ergonomic keyboards and mice, footrests, and wrist supports. These provide comfort and reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries.
  • Proper Lighting and Glare Reduction: Adequate lighting is crucial in preventing strain to eyes and fatigue. Wherever possible, use of natural lighting should be made, augmented by appropriate artificial lighting. Workplaces should also consider investing in glare-reducing measures such as anti-glare screens where needed.
  • Regular Breaks and Movement: Prolonged sitting or repetitive movements lead to discomfort, reduced circulation, and exhaustion. A great way to encourage short breaks is by engaging in short stretching or movement exercises. Another way could be to include standing workstations or sit/stand chairs to allow workers to change their working positions.
