What Is JHSC Refresher Training?
JHSC Refresher Training is mandatory training designed to help certified Joint Health and Safety Committee members stay current and continue contributing effectively to workplace health and safety.
The course builds upon your original certification and ensures committee members continue contributing effectively to workplace health and safety.
Refresher training helps certified members:
- Refresh their knowledge of workplace health and safety responsibilities
- Stay current with legislative and regulatory changes
- Review hazard recognition and risk assessment practices
- Strengthen incident prevention and workplace safety leadership

JHSC Members
Who Needs JHSC Refresher Training?
You need JHSC Refresher Training if you are:
A certified worker representative member
A certified management representative member
A JHSC member whose certification is approaching its renewal date
A member whose certification has already expired
Required by your employer to maintain certification
Timing
When Is Refresher Training Required?
Ontario requires certified JHSC members to complete Refresher Training:
- Every three years
- Before or after certification expires
- To continue maintaining certified member status
Missing your renewal period may place your workplace at risk of having insufficient certified committee members.
Validity
Does JHSC Certification Expire?
Yes Certification is valid for three years.
JHSC Certification remains valid for three years from the date you complete your CPO approved certification or previous refresher training.
To remain certified, complete an approved Refresher course before your next three-year renewal period.

Under the updated July 1, 2026 rules, you can now restore your certification simply by completing an CPO approved JHSC Refresher Training course.
You do not need to repeat Part 1 Certification or Part 2 Certification — saving both time and training costs while helping employers maintain compliant committees.

Important Update for Ontario Employers and JHSC Members
July 1, 2026 Regulatory Update
As of July 1, 2026, Ontario has updated the JHSC certification renewal requirements.
- Members with expired JHSC certification can now regain certification by completing an approved Refresher Training course.
- Repeating Part 1 and Part 2 Certification Training is no longer required simply because certification has expired.
- Previous exemption provisions have been removed under the updated regulation.
This change makes it easier for workplaces to maintain certified committee members while reducing unnecessary retraining.
