What does the law say regarding Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)?
In Ontario, most companies with 20+ workers are required by law to form a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) with a minimum of 2 members. The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requires that at least two members of the JHSC within every organization be certified by a Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) approved training program. One member representing persons who exercise managerial functions and one member representing workers.
Where can I check 4S Consulting Inc.’s CPO Approval?
You can find us in the CPO Approved Programs list here – https://www.ontario.ca/page/training-joint-health-and-safety-committee-members
How long does it take to complete the certification?
The length of the program will depend on the training delivery choice you opt for. You can be Certified in as little as 26 hours by taking our Part 1 e-Learning course and our 2-day Part 2 Virtual Live course. If you choose to do both parts as Virtual Live Sessions, you can be Certified in 5 days.
Do I get certified immediately upon completing the training program?
You will be a Certified Member on the date you complete JHSC Part 2: Workplace Hazard Training or JHSC Refresher program, whichever is applicable.
What do you get by completing the training?
Upon completion of the 2-part training, you will get certified by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, Ontario as a qualified authority capable of conducting workplace inspections & accident investigations and establishing health & safety standards. You will become qualified to set up and/or be an integral member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee within organizations.
Where can my employer/potential employer check for my certification?
You will receive a QR-coded certificate that, when scanned, will display your certification on your device. You can also access a digital copy of your proof of JHSC certification records by setting up a secure and free account on SkillsPass™ .
The hazards specific to my organization are not listed in the list of hazards catered to by the program’s workplace hazard training. What do I do?
The List of Hazards given above is merely a list from the standard program we have to offer. Our team is also equipped to create custom training programs in non-conventional workplaces. Please reach out to our training team for more details at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Is this certification valid across all Canadian provinces?
Our JHSC Certification Training program is designed to meet Ontario’s Program Standards for JHSC Training. If you are not from Ontario and/or are looking to work in Ontario or start a business in Ontario, you can take this program and get certified. For JHSC Training for other provinces or territories, please contact us at: email@example.com.
It has been 3 years since I have received my JHSC certification. Do I have to take the training in full again?
Your JHSC Certification expires 3 years from the date you completed the JHSC Part Two course. You must complete the JHSC Refresher course before your certification expires to maintain the validity of your JHSC Certification.*
If your JHSC certification is about to expire and you are an active certified member, you may apply for a one-time exemption to extend your certification for another three years without taking Refresher training. Your request must be approved by the Chief Prevention Officer before your certification expires.
Where can I check if my Certification is going to expire and if I need to take the Refresher course?
You can check your eligibility for the JHSC Refresher course here – https://cms.bluedrop.io/client/eligibility-checker/
If you’re eligible for the JHSC Refresher course, you can sign up for our program here. If you are however not eligible, you will need to retake the full JHSC Certification Training program.
*Note: Validity periods are extended until November 30, 2020 for JHSC Members who were required to take Joint Health and Safety Committee refresher training between February 28 and August 31, 2020.
I am unable to attend the training on a scheduled date. Is it possible to reschedule? If so, is there a rescheduling fee?
